, If you’re one of those people who put on your social media profile that you’ve graduated from the university of life—please delete it. After all, it’s a bit of a laughable reminder of our own egocentrism and overblown wisdom.
Anyway, how are all proper Czechs doing when it comes to spending? Let’s take a look right now!
Czechs
spend the most money on housing, utilities, water, and fuel. On average, about 2,154 Czech korunas. You might think to yourself that we’re not doing so badly after all. I’d like to point out that not everyone pays rent, and not everyone has gas. That means there are plenty of people here who bring the average down a bit; we can figure out for ourselves how much a nice apartment in the city center costs. Interestingly, retirees pay the most in this category—a full 700 crowns more!
Food and non-alcoholic beverages come in second, showing that, after all, the most important things for a person are having a roof over their head, heating their home, and eating well. We spend an average of 2,044 crowns, and I don’t think we mind it at all. Social care, insurance
, services, and other goods come in third. So if we think that consumerism is rampant only in the West, we’re wrong. After all, as soon as we wake up and eat, we’re already out spending on a bit of that consumer lifestyle. And I suspect that a lot of people don’t mind that either. People may complain, but they do have enough money after all.

But what brings shame upon the Czechs—and the blessed graduates of the “universities of life” do nothing to help—is the level of spending on education. This is where Czechs fare the worst, and even though they complain that they have to buy their child a new backpack once a year (as if the old one weren’t enough), they spend a mere 59 crowns on average. The majority of graduates of the most important school—the school of life—spend a mere 8 crowns on further education. And yet most of them have so much time on their hands they hardly know what to do with it. It’s no wonder people are so surprised on social media.
Of course, since health is what sets us apart, we’ve placed it above education, with an average of 266 crowns. So let’s not worry at all—everything is saved!
